View Full Version : Auto Thumbnail Videos???

I have GD library installed on the server, and I was under the impression that this script would auto thumbnail videos as well as pictures ect...

But alas it is not. If I do not include an image when uploading the video, it does not add the video and errors out.

Was I wrong in thinking that it would auto thumbnail video files? Do you have to create your own video preview picture, then gd library will auto thumb that picture you made?

If the last is correct, I think I was a little misled. I was under the impression from this forum post http://humorsoftware.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7 that the script would make a thumbnail preview of my video without me having to create one with some other piece of software.

Please advise...I purchased this script over another one because of this feature which the other one did not have (but was cheaper than this script).

The software does make thumbnails. You have to supply a photo for it too make one out of. It will not create a thumbnail from the video itself.

Any free software you would recommend to do this with. I have THOUSANDS of videos I need to upload and would like a fast and free solution to this problem. Is there any way to make a pic from videos in a batch form...meaning I select a folder and a screenshot software would make a pic of the first frame of every video in that folder?

thanks for the info

If you have your own server I may be able to help right a modification for you to create thumbnails using ffmpeg.

This fix will not be "easy" but it will be possible. The only problem is that it can only take a thumbnail of the first frame, meaning that it may take a thumbnail of a solid black image.
